Woolen Mills
Woolen mills were less prevalent in North Carolina and the south due to climate. Mills in the north and midwest tended to process wool mainly due to the need for cold weather clothing. The Watkins Woolen Mill, Lawson, MO, dating to 1830, is still preserved along with much of the original operating equipment.

The Wilde Yarn Co., Philadelphia began spinning woolen carpet yarns in 1880. They are no more. Peter Metzke preserved this history.
